Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
A drink on the house
In the early 1950s, what was then Royal Class enjoyed a première: on intercontinental flights, passengers were given a miniature KLM Delft Blue house.
The date stamped on the bottom of these original KLM houses leads us to believe that this took place in 1952.
However, there was a hitch at the beginning. According to strict international rules, only gifts with a maximum value of 75 cents could be given to passengers. Gifts? What gifts? Who's talking about gifts?, was KLM's reaction. At the end of the flight, passengers are offered a last drink on the house. And yes, they come served in a miniature house. The case was brought to court by a competitor but was judged in favour of KLM. After all, the rules said nothing about a drink having to be offered in a glass.
The Royal Palace however, has only been handed out to newly weds, flying on their honeymoon with KLM Business Class.
