Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) is one of the best known artists from the Dutch Golden Age. His name is inextricably linked with Delft, the city in which he was born in 1632 and where he lived and worked all his life.
The painters of Royal Delft have been painting the works of Vermeer for centuries. The original painting of this girl with the pearl was is painted by Johannes Vermeer around the year 1665. It is often referred to as the Mona Lisa of the North.
