Monkey-form milk jug
This unique, monkey-form milk jug dates from around 1750 and originates from the workshop of De Vergulde Blompot, painted by Pieter Verburg (?).
The history of the monkey-formed jugs is reaching far to the Chinese Kangxi period (1662-1722). The jug is formed as a seated monkey holding an open-topped peach to his mouth.
The colors used to paint the jug are cobalt oxide, manganese, and yellow. The monkey is seated on a blue-marbleized rock.
