Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, Its strategic location on the river Ijssel with direct access to the North Sea made this port town powerful and wealthy during the Middle Ages. This house was built in 1575 by Herbert Dapper, a Hanse merchant and ship owner. The Hanseatic League was a medieval trading association that included more than 300 cities in Eastern and Western Europe.
