Tegelveld met ster decor ca. 1625/ Tile compilation with the star motif ca. 1625
This finely painted composition of sixteen, matching polychrome tiles is dating from around 1625 and was probably executed in one of the workshops located in city Utrecht.
These particular tiles are decorated with a variety of symbolical fruits such as pomegranates (life), grapes (fertility), and oranges (abundance). Additionally, the composition had been enriched with colorful tulips, a flower that is so distinctive for The Netherlands. The matching four tiles which are connected with their inner corners create a Moorish star motif in the middle.
